On February 15, <em><a title=\"la padania\" href=\"http:\/\/www.padania.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">La Padania<\/a><\/em> interviewed <a title=\"bersani wiki\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pier_Luigi_Bersani\" target=\"_blank\">Pier Luigi Bersani<\/a>, PD secretary.\u00a0 (Shown elsewhere on this blog with his <a title=\"roll 'em up! right...\" href=\"http:\/\/premesso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img_04301.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">sleeves rolled up<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Salient <a title=\"bersani padania quote\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lettera43.it\/politica\/8648\/il-leader-pd-alla-lega-ok-anche-al-governo-di-destra-ma-senza-il-cav_breve.htm\" target=\"_blank\">quote<\/a>: <em>Va anche bene che il governo rimanga nell&#8217;ambito del centrodestra.<\/em> \u201cIt\u2019s also all right if the government stays center-right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Is <a title=\"senatur wiki in dialetto\" href=\"http:\/\/lmo.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Umberto_Bossi\" target=\"_blank\">el Senatur<\/a> sharpening the knife?<\/p>\n<p>English language<a title=\"city of donne\" href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/node\/18178303?story_id=18178303\" target=\"_blank\"> coverage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0As the holes in the immigration walls get harder to plug, shifting from Ceuta and Melilla to Lampedusa to the Greece-Turkey land border, Greece talks of suspending the Dublin Convention for asylum seekers.\u00a0 The <em>Economist\u2019s<\/em> <a title=\"charlemagne\" href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/node\/18178167?story_id=18178167\" target=\"_blank\">Charlemagne<\/a> comes out with the following sound idea: \u201cA painful compromise might be tried: if Greece wants to suspend Dublin II, it should accept a temporary suspension of Schengen and the return of border controls.\u201d \u00a0Me likey.<\/p>\n<p>3. The Oscars: \u201c<a title=\"oscars: economist\" href=\"http:\/\/www4.economist.com\/node\/18178291\" target=\"_blank\">this year\u2019s awards are less relevant than ever<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 <a title=\"ridiculous\" href=\"http:\/\/carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">More<\/a> need not be said, except that Hollywood need to keep looking to that export market.<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0In <a title=\"obama lexingotn economist\" href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/node\/18178389?story_id=18178389\" target=\"_blank\">Lexington,<\/a> Obama&#8217;s handling of Egypt gets a look.\u00a0 Much howling and gnashing of teeth from John Bolton, Niall Ferguson and Michael Scheuer, among others.\u00a0 But maybe No-Drama Obama was the Decider?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Obama is said to have been more certain in private that Mr Mubarak\u2019s jig was up than America\u2019s public pronouncements (especially those of Hillary Clinton, his sometimes behind-message secretary of state) let on. He flatly rejected the Israelis\u2019 analysis that the Egyptian president could hang on and that America should do everything to help him. Mr Obama\u2019s conversation with Mr Mubarak on the evening of February 1st is said to have been the toughest between an American president and an ally since Ronald Reagan\u2019s scolding of Menachem Begin during Israel\u2019s bombing of Beirut in August 1982.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>5. In <a title=\"schumpeter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/node\/18175675\" target=\"_blank\">Schumpter<\/a>, the uneasy art-business axis is examined. \u00a0Damien Hirst is one shrewd businessman.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Damien Hirst was even more audacious. He not only realised that nouveau-riche collectors would pay extraordinary sums for dead cows and jewel-encrusted skulls. He upturned the art world by selling his work directly through Sotheby\u2019s, an auction house.
